Engaging with Crossroads
During the pandemic, our team reimagined how we deliver workshops, webinars, consultations, and other engagements — making them work digitally. Along the way, we learned that offering our work both in-person and online doesn’t just create more flexible, creative solutions — it also reduces the social and environmental costs of our work.
Our facilitators use tools built for the digital space, like breakout rooms, shared workspaces (such as Padlet), and video, to keep participants engaged. We also offer custom formats like webinars and Zoom Events, which mirror the experience of attending a conference.
There are two ways to access Crossroads workshops: attend a public session or book a workshop for your organization. Most workshops and capacity-building sessions can be delivered in person or digitally via Zoom. Some can even be offered asynchronously, paired with a live debrief.
Public Workshops Crossroads regularly offers open-registration public workshops — a great entry point for individuals or small groups new to our work, onboarding new staff, or deepening their own practice. These are available both digitally and in person. In-person sessions are currently held in Chicago, the Twin Cities, and St. Louis, with occasional partner-hosted sessions elsewhere. Check the schedule below for upcoming dates.
Institutionally Sponsored Workshops Many of our workshops can be customized for your institution’s specific needs, delivered in person or digitally. In-person sessions help teams build relationships alongside knowledge; digital sessions work well for remote teams or when participants face higher health risks.
For in-person engagements, institutions cover travel for two facilitators (transportation, lodging, meals), using GSA per diem rates as a general guideline. Because travel affects institutional budgets, facilitators’ lives, and the environment, we typically encourage digital engagement for events under two days when the institution is located outside the Midwest (Chicago, St. Louis, Springfield IL, and Minneapolis/St. Paul).
